Sanctuary Mountain Maungatautari is the world's largest fenced eco-sanctuary, providing a haven for over 730 of New Zealand's native species including kiwi, kākāpō, takahē and tuatara.

Our partnership with Ekos

Sanctuary Mountain Maungatautari has partnered with Ekos to launch the country's first trade-ready biodiversity credits scheme. 

This groundbreaking approach will enable the diversification and long-term sustainability of the sanctuary's funding streams while changing how New Zealand conservation is valued globally.

What are biodiversity credits?

Biodiversity credits are designed to fund biodiversity conservation projects that deliver UN Sustainable Development Goals (UN-SDGs).
Each credit represents a unit of verified biodiversity outcomes that has already been delivered by Sanctuary Mountain Maungatautari.  This means that they represent a no-risk opportunity for buyers as the work has already been done, audited, verified and is now ready for sale.
The credits are priced at the true cost to deliver those conservation benefits and are a new way for organsations to help solve the global biodiversity crisis.
Individuals and organisations can support Sanctuary Mountain Maungatautari's biodiversity conservation efforts by buying credits that can be used as part of an organisation's Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) reporting and Nature-Based Financial Disclosure (TNFD) reporting.  
This is more than carbon-offsetting, by investing in these credits, you are going deeper into nature-positive investment.
